Dakota is your typical guy. He's kind hearted and strong willed. But he'd rather have fun more than anything. He's laidback and often times pretty lazy. Though he knows his responsibilities and gets to them in an orderly manor. Though usually this is done in a lazy manor. Though he gets everything done and prioritizes most things. He's flirty and is a bit awkard. He is very social, but sometimes he'll say things that most people can't relate to. Like he often turns a conversation completely over one word. He's a romantic and wants a relationship, but often times he questions if he's actually ready for one. Though he's the sweetest guy you'll ever meet and a good person to come to for advice, though he often doesn't have all of the answers.
Dakota was a good student, though with the his awkwardness, he didn't have many friends. He was often considered the odd foreigner. He did have a touch of shyness in his younger years, mainly after coming to America. He has a bit of a temper, but it takes a lot to actually get him to the point of violence. He's not afraid to raise his voice though. He doesn't seem like the intimidating type, but he has little tolerance for some things. He cannot stand arguments over little things. He is fiercely loyal and protective of friends or anyone he meets. He's not one to hold grudges and is the type to want to be friends with anyone. He doesn't like tense situations and tends to force himself into a crowd for fear of being left alone. He really only truly wants to belong and since he has some naivity, he has a hard tome relating to some things. He also tends to not get things right away, mostly jokes. He's a gentle and understanding person and mainly someone who lacks the hatred bone. He believes in peace, but isn't against fighting someone, granted they strike him first. He's mainly the quiet type, but is the sweetest person you'll ever meet.
History:
Dakota was the first of two sons born to Jason and Samantha Mathis. He was born in Melbourne, Australia. But he came to America when he was only two. A year later his brother was born. Dakota was born with a heart condition which involved surgery since doctors believed he wouldn't last more than six months. So he now has an artificial artery since the one that was there didn't function and caused problems. He grew up on a ranch that was owned by his father. The ranch was centered around training and rehabilitating abandoned or neglected horses. His father rescued them, his mother, being a vet, treated them. Dakota and his brother fed and groomed the horses, while also helping training and rode them. Dakota loved the ranch, but he spent his time in town where he went to normal schools. He graduated high school and was put to work full time, breaking horses. His father taught him tricks and would send the new arrivals to Dakota. The ranch picked up on bringing in wild horses to control the population. If they were too much, they would send them back.
He did this for a few years and bonded with a couple horses. Horses he helped nurse from foals. They were twin horses that were found abandoned in an old stable with their mother. He raised them on his own until they were yearlings. He soon began to grow tired of staying in one place. He wanted to go out and do what his father did. So one day he bid farewell to his family and after raising the money, he left for a new town. He wasn't sure where he was going, but he wanted to go where he could keep a ranch. He left his hometown of St. Paul, Missouri within a week, making sure the twins were transported with him. After some traveling, he wound up in a town called Westin, Arizona. He settled down and has been in Westin for two months now.
Roleplay sample:A shiver wracked his lean muscled frame as he made his way toward the stables, He groaned and tugged the jacket closer around him in an attempt to block out the icy wind. He sighed, pushing a small puff of steam passed his lips. He tugged open the stable doors and took a few steps in, keeping the door open for the moment. His horses were located near the front of the first block of stalls so he didn't have to walk too far from the school. He heard Woe whinny loudly and smirked, knowing he'd been spotted. He wandered over to his horses and stroked Woe's nose, then giving the same attention to Ty and then finally paused at his mare and her filly.
He was here to start training the filly. She had just become a yearling and it was time to get her ready for when she'd be broken for saddle in a couple more years. Ele snorted at Dakota and turned her head, watching as he opened beside her. Ria had been weaned so she no longer shared a stall with her dam. Though she still maintained a watchful eye. Dakota approached the filly and placed a hand on her nose as a sign for her to keep calm. Ria whinned and nudged closer to Dakota. "Hey, Baby Girl. We're going to start something new today. You ready to learn some new stuff?" He asked, stroking her nose. She gave a sharp whinny and drug a hoove repeatedly against the floor of her stall.
Dakota laughed and attached a lead to her halter, leading her out of the stall. Ele curled her ears back and snorted, but didn't protest any further. He bid goodbye to his horses and lead Ria out of the stable. He made his way to the round pen. He would work on her ground work and breaking her of this easily distracted behavior. If she was to learn anything, he needed to be sure she wouldn't take off after something during a show. He struggled to conceal another shiver and lead her into the round pen after unlocking the gate. Why he deicided to do this today, he would never know. He needed to get her ready sooner rather than later. He shoved one hand into the pocket of his hoodie and lead her toward the center of the pen.
Her ears curled back and then pricked forward, seeming to home in on every little sounds. He stepped toward her and unclipped the lead rope. Ria stood still for a moment, then took off to explore the pen, sniffing everything. He decided to let her get it all out for the moment, then whistled for her. She shook her head and trotted over to him. She had the same gaits as her mother, she would make a great show horse one day. He stroked her nose and smirked when she leaned into him. "Good Girl." He praised, slipping her a baby carrot to distract her. He knew she had a bit of a shyness when it came to her feet. He knelt down beside her and lifted her hoof and slid a hand down her leg, causing her to snort and back off. Dakota frowned and decided to leave that problem for now.
He attached the lead rope again and began to lead her around the pen, watching her evety movement. She strained against the lead when a small noise caught her attention. He was sure the curiosity was tearing at her. The walls were high so he couldn't see out unless he looked over the gate. Whatever it was, they weren't near the gate so he wasn't sure what she was trying to see. He forced her to stay still. This was why he needed to train her early. She wasn't supposed to be running after every little noise. Ria snorted and strained more against the lead, but Dakota's grip stayed firm. He glanced toward the gate, hearing footsteps, but brushed it off as nothing. He then tugged at the rope and continued to lead her around, using hand gestures and treats to keep her attention. He stopped and used the treats to keep her still. She leaned toward the hand that held the treats and sniffed, staying still. Her ears curled back toward the sound of the footsteps, but remained in one place.
Dakota smirked and gave her a carrot and ran a hand through her mane, praising her again. He turned back toward the gate, waiting to see if anyone came through. The footsteps had stopped for the moment, but he continued to watch the gate. Curiosity was getting better of him now as well.
