Word Count: 315 Status: Complete Lyrics: Got You by Leona Lewis
Raine laughed when next Jacob spoke about not being able to part with the truck. Just one of those things that you couldn't live with or live without. Her arm dropped as he wrapped his arm around her, and for that moment she closed her eyes when he kissed her hair. She couldn't wait to be cuddled up alongside him later in the day when all the work was done. Unfortunately she would have to return home sooner or later. She had just up and gone over the past few days and neither her gran nor her brother understood what she was going on about.
Your brother?
She asked, tentatively moving her eyes from his phone to Jake's face.
A place to crash I got you No need to ask I got you Just get on the phone I got you Come and pick you up if I have to What's weird about it Is we're right at the end And mad about it Just figured it out in my head I'm proud to say I got you
Go ahead and say goodbye I'll be alright Go ahead and make me cry I'll be alright And when you need a place to run to For better for worse I got you I got you
When Raine looked up she realised that the BLM had come into view. She sat up a little in her seat and leaned forwards to get a better look at the place. It was exactly the same as it had been three months ago, except it was covered in snow. The drive had been snow ploughed and the green and white buildings looked crisp. Some clean and other more ragged-looking horses were enclosed by the white fences, some splattered with mud. There were a fair amount of horses at the BLM. There were a collection of them that looked quite dirty and completely wild.
There was a light bay standing close to the fence as they drove down the long gravel drive and into the parking area.
Would you look at some of these horses.
Raine's voice sounded impressed by some of the horses that she could see. There were certainly a beautiful collection of them, even if their coats were muddy. She turned her head to look at Jacob and her heart melted in her chest all over again. That movie star smile he had given her earlier just made her weak at the knees.

Jake's eyes lingered on each of the horses in turn, taking in their conformation and such. He noticed a gray, and kept his eyes on him for a moment.
See the stocky gray right there? The one behind the bay? He has the conformation you were looking for.
Jake's eyes turned to Raine as he watched her analyze the horse, before his gaze returned to the horses.
Laughin' with your pretty mouth Laughin' with your broken eyes Laughin' with your lover's tongue In a lullaby
Where do you go when you're lonely Where do you go when you're blue Where do you go when you're lonely I'll follow you When the stars go blue
His eyes spotted a bright red color, and he leaned forward, squinting his eyes. The flashy gelding seemed to trot on tiptoe, arching his neck like a stud as he herded the mares around the pen. He raised his head, his forelock flipping up and down, as he cast Jake a defiant look. Jake felt the corners of his mouth pull up as he watched the gelding try to stare him down.
As he watched, another gelding approached the blood bay. His palomino body was deeply contrasted by the brown of his legs, and Jake filed through his brain for the color- chocolate palomino. He stuck out his head, his Roman-nose pushing the blood bay. The bay gave him an astonished look, and the palomino seemed to inflate, making the slightly taller horse back away. The older gelding approached the fence, nickering a friendly greeting to Jake and Raine.
Jake climbed from the old truck, approaching the fence. The horse extended his nose, pressing his muzzle into the man's outstretched hand. Jake watched as the blood bay also came close, before both muzzles were on his hand. He knew that the horses closer to the buildings had been socialized, and he saw just how far it'd come with these two young geldings. [/blockquote]

Word Count: 466 Status: Complete Lyrics: Warrior Poet by The Classic Crime
Raine combed her hair back on her scalp and it fell naturally over the sides of her face, framing it perfectly and giving her that country girl touch with its soft waves. Jacob had pointed out a horse in the paddock. It had a soft grey colour on its patches and its mane was various tones of white and grey. Raine's eyes looked over the horse and watched as it turned, almost perfectly to show her its side profile. Those long slender legs appealed to her and she couldn't help but stared as she had done with the two horses she already owned - both of which had come from the BLM.
When Raine turned in her seat Jacob was already eyeing another few horses out in the pasture. They pulled to a stop and Raine did not hop out of the truck quite as quickly as Jacob did.
It couldn't be more far from the truth If you could do to me the things you would do And I know you're on to me I'm watching you wanting me You hung down the rebels and punish them wrongfully You came with fire and weapons to kill
A warrior poet once said You're not dead yet so live like you could be A warrior poet said Have no regrets when you're old Have no regrets when you're old
I'm not looking for you to be anything But my ultimate enemy So back off, you're not what I would prefer to see When my body rots I still won't give you the courtesy You came with fire for the last time
Raine tucked her hands into her hoodie pockets and walked through the snow, following Jake's footprints on the ground and coming up alongside him. The two geldings were colours that Raine was unfamiliar with. She had only ever seen these colours from books she had studied but seeing them up close she could see their appeal. Her smile was bright, with her pearly whites showing against her soft pink lips.
And as usual, you get things done quickly.
Raine bumped his shoulder teasingly as she moved behind him and further along the fence. Eventually she ended up leaning on one of the white poles, looking out at the grey tobiano. The horse was standing not too far from the fence but was just out of reach. He rolled his eyes towards her, eyeballing the stranger and eventually shaking his head. He lifted his back hoof onto its tip and swished his tail, curiously lowering his head as he laid his brown eyes upon her once again. Raine clicked her tongue and held her hand out. The gelding raised his head and reached his muzzle out, just close enough to sniff her hand but from a fair distance. He heaved out a sigh and then extended a foreleg, rubbing his head against his leg and then relaxing again. He seemed somewhat cautious but after another moment he turned on his back legs to face Raine. He took those few steps and rubbed his muzzle on her sleeve, his lips messily waffling the material.
Such a beautiful boy. So soft.
Raine stroked the fine velvet skin on his muzzle, laughing aloud when the gelding bobbed his head up and down.
These horses are stunning.
She smiled, tucking her hair behind her ear. She would come back for this one. Cowboy would have another friendly horse to expand his small cluster. Dancer would eventually warm up to this new addition.

Jacob's eyes narrowed as he studied to two horses snuffling his hand. The chocolate palomino was about an inch shorter than the blood bay at the shoulder, and had the sloping shoulders of a Quarter Horse. He'd be good for ranching and rounding up cattle, where as the blood bay was more spread out. He was leggy, and long, built like a Standardbred rather than a Quarter Horse. General riding horse, an easy slope, and comfortable paces.
I like getting things done quickly. Then you don't have a chance to lose the ones that are perfect for you.
He cast Raine a look out of the corner of his eye, and watched her interact with the gray. They were perfect for eachother, that much was clear.
A loud whinny startled Jake, and the blood bay cast him a mischievous glance before wandering over to Raine. [/blockquote]

Sounds reasonable.
Raine cast him an impish look, biting her lower lip then returning her attention to the tobiano horse. Both of his ears were pointing forwards as she rubbed his cheek but the one ear turned to the side as the blood bay approached. Raine cast her eyes towards Jacob after the bay had whinnied and she laughed.
He'll be keeping you on your toes.
She said, her voice mirroring the amusement in her eyes as she held her hand out to the bay. He gave her the same reaction he had given Jacob and pushed his muzzle into her palm. She scratched his muzzle affectionately and with a pat on both horse's necks, she walked on over to Jacob. She placed a hand on his neck, her thumb gently stroking his tanned skin.
Let's go buy you some horses.
With that she notioned towards the offices where a BLM official had come out from the green door, lifting a hand in greeting towards the two of them. She took his hand and walked backwards a few steps, waiting for him to fall in line. She could see that he had immediately taken to the first two horses and knew that the BLM would be making good money today on their horses. Or Jake's soon-to-be ranch horses.

Jake's fingers intertwined with Raine's as they walked towards the official. He was a skinny guy, with white blonde hair and glasses. Jake couldn't help but think of how the guy reminded him of a skittish colt as the guy cast them a nervous look.
I'm Jake Forester. I put in an application about a week ago, to adopt some horses?
He allowed his eyes to wander to the three horses, now standing together. Feeling eyes on him, the chocolate palomino seemed to trot on tiptoe. Tilting his head to the side, Jake watched his movements before turning back to the guy.
The chocolate palomino. He's a Spanish Mustang, yeah?
Receiving confirmation, Jake nodded to the three geldings.
Those are the three I'd like to adopt. [/blockquote]

When Jacob came up alongside her she willingly allowed him to lace his fingers into hers. His hands were so warm whereas hers were quite cold. He warmed her hand and she allowed a little space between them, swinging their hands a few times whilst her other hand rested in her hoodie pocket. She was already so comfortable around Jacob but she had to remember that she didn't yet know him. Yet she was allowing herself to enjoy his company and all the warmth and laughter he offered. He was also the one keeping her on her toes. Raine hadn't been this busy in a long time and it was nice to have something to do. She was grateful to him for giving her that. She needed something other than her parents or her brother on her mind.
Raine's eyes had softened from that striking turqouise and when they approached the BLM officer, she flashed him one of her bright and friendly smiles. That was what Raine was best known for and she used it to her advantage most of the time. For now she was just genuinly happy. The officer glanced towards her before sheepishly swallowing and keeping his eyes on Jacob. He was quite skinny but at the same time he was handsome himself, but obviously shy and intimidated by the larger man. He stood aside from the door.
"Just a few forms for you to sign. Payments and such."

Jacob nodded, and he allowed Raine to tow him along inside. They sat at the desk, and the BLM official handed him a stack of paperwork and a pen. Jake quickly filled everything out, and tilted his head.
Four fifty, right?
With a confirming nod, Jake pulled out the money and handed it over to the guy.
"If you have halters already, that'll help. Other wise you have to go get some."
I have them. Get the boys to the chute, and I'll grab them.
After the brief exchange, Jake jogged out to the trailer, grabbing the two halters, and opened the truck door to grab the third. Noting the Roman-nose on the chocolate palomino, he loosened the nose band on one of the halters, and climbed into his truck. He backed it to the chute, and left the engine running. He hopped out, climbing up onto the chute. The blood bay was first, and he came as easily as if he was bred to do this.
He trotted easily up the path, and didn't even flinch as each of the gates swung closed behind him.
"I could halter him for you."
Jacob cast him a glance, as if wondering if he thought he was incompetent, and leaned low to slide the halter over the bay's head. A final click, and threading the lead through the halter, and he was done. He trotted easily into the trailer, and Jake jumped in quickly to shut the barrier. He climbed back out as the chocolate palomino came rearing down the chute. He looked as angry as a stallion who's mares had been stolen.
Easy, Rocko.
Jake's mind raced as he found the name. He knew that a name would bring some sense to this whole mess, and the gelding reared his head, casting a betrayed look to Jake. The young man flinched, before slipping the halter over the gelding's nose. The extra two holes made it fit perfectly, and Jake expertly buckled it and tucked the lead in, allowing him to run into the trailer. Casting Jake a defeated look, he hung his head and sighed as he walked to the trailer. [/blockquote]

Raine led the way into the office and at first she sat down alongside Jacob, then once he got into the paperwork she began to feel restless. She was playing with her hands in her lap and landed up standing, moving to the doorway once again and crossing her arms over her chest. Her eyes roved over the other horses and how they contrasted. She leaned her head against the doorframe and she could hear Jacob talking behind her. Eventually she felt his presence behind her and she moved out of the way to allow the two men through. She followed after them but was a little slower as she allowed them to go about their business. They were loading Jacob's two horses first before Raine even went near the pasture. The palomino acted up, his reaction contrasting with the bay's calm loading. She kept her distance as Jacob handled the horse and she grabbed the last halter hanging over the fence. She took it in hand and climbed under the poles, walking out towards the tobiano.
The grey gelding lowered his head as she approached, which she did slowly, smiling and holding her hand out to him whilst keeping the halter behind her back. The gelding waffled his lips over her hand once again and watched cautiously as the other horses were loaded. He flicked his ears back and forth. Raine brought the halter into his view and was quick to fix it onto his head. She did up the buckle and the lead was already clipped onto the emerald green halter. The tobiano flicked his tail and that was as good a reaction as she got.
Such a good one.
She cooed, stroking his neck and holding the lead just under his chin whilst her other hand held the other end of the lead. She led him up to the gate, following along the fence and eventually out the gate towards the trailer.
He's such a pleasure to lead.
She commented, handing Jacob the lead so that he could handle loading the tobiano. She would prefer if the more experienced of them both handled the trailer business. Once Jacob was done and coming out of the trailer, she laid her hand on his arm, casting him a fond look then turning towards the BLM officer.
Thank you for your help.
Raine's excitement was crawling beneath her skin and she clasped her hands together, turning towards Jacob. She squeaked and then jumped into his arms.
You're a darling.
She kissed his neck and used her word 'darling', which had been frequent back in L.A. Her eyes shone and all of her energy seemed to come out at once.
