Word Count: 439 Status: Complete; I can change over to Justin's account depending on who someone wants to rp with =] Lyrics: Airplanes by B.O.B. feat Hayley Williams
Raine pulled her sunglasses away from her eyes and folded them in her hands as she walked into the store. She held them in her hand for a moment then tucked them away into her handbag. As she scuffled around in her handbag looking for lip ice her brother brushed her shoulder then stood just a few steps ahead of her, standing with his shoulders hunched up and his hands in his jean pockets.
"Are you serious, Rai?"
He was eyeing the store like it was a rip-off. Okay, it kind of was compared to the stores they were used to back home. Raine eyed her younger brother and sighed. He hadn't grown fonder of Westin ever since he'd arrived and he was grumpier than usual because he had to down his number of cigarettes a day. Their gran didn't tolerate smoking in the house so if he had to have a smoke, he had to sneak in the garden. That took a lot of work because despite their gran's age, nobody could fool that nose of hers. She smelt that smoke on him and act like he'd been doing marijuana in the bushes.
Raine walked ahead of her brother and shoved him on the back of the head playfully. She had been working hard these last few weeks to get Justin to like this small town. For her it was a good change and Justin needed it even more. He'd been boozed up way too long. He needed to sober up but he just wasn't taking the bait.
You're such a baby.
She teased, walking past one of the rails, on the way smiling and greeting the cashier. She looked at item after item on the rack, stopping to observe a few of the clothes and consider them before moving onto the next.
Can we pretend that airplanes In the night sky Are like shooting stars? I could really use a wish right now Wish right now Wish right now Can we pretend that airplanes In the night sky Are like shooting stars? I could really use a wish right now Wish right now Wish right now
Ya, I could use a dream or a genie or a wish To go back to a place much simpler than this 'Cause after all the partyin' and smashin' and crashin' And all the glitz and the glam and the fashion And all the pandemonium and all the madness
How about The Night Before Christmas? Come on. Get into the festive spirit. I mean, it even has your grumpy face on it.
Raine held up one of the shirts with the trademark skeleton on the front. Justin shot her a dirty look then eyed the handbags. Pointing one out to her.
"Check it out, they spelt Guess right in China."
Raine laughed aloud at her brother's comment and walked over, eyeing the handbag then setting it back on the shelf. She elbowed Justin in the ribs and he took the hint, quietening down before he offended the cashier. Being in a small town was different. You could easily become the talk of the town and if you didn't choose your words carefully, you could just as easily make a few enemies.
Justin, you're terrible.

Dark eyes scanned the shirts hanging from each rack. Jacob faltered slightly as he gazed around, noticing that not many of the clothes in the store were of much use for working, but he lifted a teeshirt to his eye length and scowled. Enscripted on it was, "Me. Just do it," A crappy play of words on the Nike slogan. Frowning, he set it back down, before scanning through more.
He pushed through some more teeshirts before finally finding a simple one- dark blue, with "Life's Too Short" scrawled on the front. Finally deciding to purchase it, he wandered to the jeans. All were many different washes- no plain blue jeans. A slight flicker of anger and resentment flared through him, but he knew that there were other stores nearby where he could purchase better clothes.
Noticing a young blonde girl scanning handbags, he carefully moved closer to her.
They used to call me lightening I was always quick to strike Had everything I own In the saddles on my back
I had a reputation For never stayin' very long Just like a wild and restless drifter Like a cowboy in a song
I met a dark haired beauty Where they laid the whiskey down In southern Arizona In a little border town
As he approached the girl, he frowned. He watched the man with her for any signs of anger for coming near the girl, but he had a question to ask, and it was going to be answered.
"'Scuse me, ma'am. Do you happen to know where I could come by some regular blue jeans? None of these-" He gestured to the rack of jeans behind him, "Are much good for work."

"Like you weren't thinking it."
Justin mumbled back, rubbing his ribs where she had elbowed him. His sister certainly knew where it would hurt. He absently looked at a few more bags then exhaled through his lips, looking elsewhere around the store. He had been out and about with Raine on her request that he do something productive. He hadn't been going in the right direction and it was obvious that his scruffy look was more than just being the rebellious - it was the look of someone who was really struggling with his inner demons. Raine on the other hand seemed to be going the right way, looking fresh and well-groomed. She had a bright smile that always gave her a friendly glow.
Raine's eyes also wondered but not quite like Justin's. There was someone else in the store and he had come nearer to her, but he was frowning. Raine's smile was small at first but her eyes followed his to the rack of jeans, all of which were meant to be stylish, not exactly the cowboy wrangler kind of jeans used for work out on the ranch. Her smile brightened as she replied to the man.
Do you know where Round 'em Up or Eklectik Tees is? I got my jeans there for when I'm at the ranch and they've been pretty good so far.
Raine's eyes were natural and hardly made up, with only touches of beige and light pink on her eyelids. She certainly didn't look the type to rough it out at a ranch, mainly because she didn't and was only just being introduced to the riding world. She had two horses, one of which was a wild Nokota and the other, a tamer horse named Cowboy. You couldn't give her points for originality on that name but for her short time in the saddle, she was pretty good. Behind her Justin was watching the two, his hands in his pockets and playing with the box of cigarettes he was just dying to smoke. Raine would kill him but he wasn't going to stay on this little shopping spree much longer.

Jacob's brows creased as he thought over what the girl had said. Round 'em Up or Eklectik Tees. Had he seen either of those stores? He couldn't be sure. "I'm sorry ma'am, but I'm not sure if I know where they're located. I'm sorry to be a bother, but would you mind directing me the right way?" His husky voice was low, as if he was talking to a skittish horse, and his hand rubbed the back of his neck, showing his anxiety. The conversation was awkward for him, especially because the man with the young lady was fiddling with cigarettes that he was just aching to smoke. Jake felt the same twinge as he shifted. He was down to about a quarter of a pack a day, but the temptation to smoke more was strong. He rubbed his fingers through his dark hair, pushing it away from his face. Not that it did much good, mind you, as it always fell back exactly as it had been before.

Raine had met plenty of muscled, handsome men at the clubs back in the city. She had been with a few of them as well and admittedly not all of them were great lovers but then again she didn't at all mind the muscles. That made up for the lack of a brain but Raine still felt guilty for, well, those guilty pleasures. But let's get one thing straight - there was just no comparison between a cowboy and a city slick kind of guy. The guys out in this town were mostly faithful and they all had good spirits. Raine enjoyed her nights out in the bar with all the boys that came for a beer after a long day in the snow. She loved the company and it was a whole new experience from the ones she had in a nightclub.
So there she was, her eyes wandering to the man's arm as he showed off those well-deserved muscles as he rubbed the back of his neck. He didn't seem quite so comfortable but Raine showed anything but discomfort. She looked at ease as she stood before a man she hadn't seen before. And he was calling her ma'am. Now that was new.
Haven't you wondered, haven't you guessed Haven't you dreamed what's coming round next Haven't you foreseen, master plan All of this hold it in your hand Deep inside you light a flame don't you stay Down just get up again Can't you hear it, it's a sign To live this life
Now there's something that's changed me Getting older a little bolder I can see a new surrounding
Life's about perception hope that you can see the proof If you're living in a palace or you got no roof Stop complaining all the time, go now.
I have some time.
Some time? She had absaloutly nothing else to do besides Project: Get Justin off his ass. She looked over her shoulder at her brother who was watching them. She eyed the cigarettes and tilted her head to one side.
Justin.
She pleaded with him but Justin stepped forwards, his hand on his sisters shoulder and squeezing it gently. He had a soft spot for those blue eyes of hers but right then, they weren't doing their magic.
"I'll see you back at Gran's, sis."
He nodded towards the stranger.
"Hands in your own pockets."
Justin had to play his brotherly part but all the same he had smiled at the other guy, who looked just about his age, but for Justin's scruffy appearance he looked older and more worn. Raine watched her brother go, about to say something to Justin for his last comment but thought better of it.
He's terrible.
Raine laughed, shaking her head and pushing her blonde waves away from her eyes.
Are you going to pay for that?
She asked the man, motioning towards the shirt he had picked up.
I'll wait outside, uh..
She left her words hanging, unable to finish because she had no idea what his name was. You'd have expected her to know - it was a small town after all.

Word Count: 308 Status:Complete. Lyrics:I Will Not Bow- Breaking Benjamin. Jacob nodded once, cracking a smile at the other man's-Justin's- comment about keeping his hands in his own pockets. He made a show of deliberately tossing his shirt over his shoulder and stuffing his hands into the pockets of his well-worn bluejeans. They exchanged a look- guy code for, "Don't mess around" and "I won't." As the young lady focused her attention on him, Jake nodded. "M'name's Jacob Forester, ma'am. And I won't be but a minute." He quickly glided to the counter, handed the woman the shirt and pulled out some bills. A short exchange, and he was back with the tiny blonde. "I wouldn't expect you to know my name. This is my first day here. New state, new start." A small smile curved the sides of his lips. "You don't have to come, miss. I'm sure you have better things to do than walk an old cowboy around." There was a teasing tone in his voice that wasn't apparent very often, and he broke into a grin, his teeth showing whiter against the tan of his skin.
Now The dark begins to rise, save your breath it's far from over Leave the lost and dead behind, nows your chance to run for cover I don't want to change the world, I just want to leave it colder Light the fuse and burn it up, take the path that leads to nowhere All is lost again, but I'm not giving in
I Will Not Bow, I Will Not Break I Will shut the world away I will not fall, I will not fade I will take your breath away "Although," he added as an after thought, "Is it possible? I mean, when kids are young, they play cowboys and Indians. But can there be an Indian cowboy?" He pondered this aloud, laughing quietly along the way. [/blockquote]

Raine was just under six foot but that didn't stop this man at all from towering over her. She had to look up a little but she guessed that if she wore a good pair of heels then she'd be able to look him in the eye. It was somewhat intimidating but Raine was one of those people who could be comfortable around anyone.
She was surprised when the man put his hands in his pockets and she burst out with a little laughter. He at least had a fair sense of humour, and Justin had seemed to appreciate it as well. Before he'd left he'd shot Raine a wink and then went on his business. Raine smoked a little, admittedly, but she had every reason to get Justin to cut down. He was on a pack a day, if not more, whereas Raine only smoked a few times a month. It was more of a social thing than anything else, and smoke in your hair was awful.
Jacob. Alright now she had a name for the tall, dark and handsome man that just happened into her day. She didn't mind one bit. Raine made her way to the door once Jacob left to pay for the shirt and casually fitted her hands into her jean pockets. Raine was wearing bell bottom black jeans and wearing a white jacket. It was warm inside her jacket and she cuddled into the inside, which was soft to the touch. She was wearing flat shoes just in case the snow on the sidewalk wasn't heel-friendly.
Eventually Jacob returned, having paid for his shirt and Raine led the way to the other stores. Raine's eyes widened that it was just his first day in Westin. She cracked one of her bigger smiles, following his infectious grin.
Oh please. I was looking at fake handbags. I hardly have anything to do.
An indian cowboy, eh? Raine certainly hadn't heard of that before.
That's impressive all the same. You've got the best of both.
Raine had been so busy talking and she hadn't realised that Round 'em Up was so close to Big Blue. Raine put her hand on Jacob's arm to stop him. God damn. He certainly was hiding a lot under that jacket. Raine kicked herself for that one, her mischevious smile nearly giving her away but her eyes averted towards the store.
Now this place will have exactly what you're looking for. C'mon.

Jacob laughed as the young woman indicated that he had the best of both worlds. The laughter stayed in his eyes as he said slowly, "Too bad I got none of the looks from either."They continued walking for a few steps before her hand came down on his arm. His muscle was relaxed, but still defined. "Well, miss, I'm still not aware of your name." He grinned brilliantly, before following the girl into the store and relaxing almost immediately. The smell of new jeans, clean tees, and leather comforted Jake. He glided to the jeans, grabbing a few pairs in one hand, before turning to face the girl again.

Oh, no, you don't get to play that card. Playing coy?
Raine laughed and shook off his comment, not having the looks from either side. Now there was something about cowboys. They were stern but damn they could be shy. Raine had a hard time with getting some of the younger guys at the bar to open up, especially Carl from Silver Stag, but she was getting there. Now here was Jacob saying he had he hadn't gotten the looks from either side of his heritage.
Believe me, you got looks from somewhere in there.
The glove compartment is inaccurately named And everybody knows it. So i'm proposing a swift orderly change.
Cause behind its door there's nothing to keep my fingers warm And all i find are souvenirs from better times Before the gleam of your taillights fading east To find yourself a better life.
I was searching for some legal document As the rain beat down on the hood When i stumbled upon pictures i tried to forget And that's how this idea was drilled into my head
Raine lifted her hand off of his arm as she led the way into the store. She was immediately surrounded by the smell of hay and leather. The clothes section was small in this store as it mainly supplied tack but there was a fair selection of clothes for time out at the ranch.
It's Raine, by the way. Raine Adylin.
She had turned around, walking back a few steps with a bright smile on her face before turning around. She let him shuffle through the clothes section, in the mean while eyeing a few saddles. She ran her hand along the new leather, having never touched a horse's back. They certainly were good pieces of work.
What do you do, anyhow? Rodeo? Ranch hand?
She asked, her back turned to him until Raine turned around and found Jacob standing with jeans in hand and facing her. She leaned against one of the saddle stands with her foot resting up against the block of wood. She was at ease, fairly calm considering how bubbly she would usually be. There was something quiet about Jacob thus far that had calmed Raine down.

Jacob shrugged at Raine’s comment. “I do a little of everything. Whatever needs to be done, I do. I prefer training young horses though.” He was quiet for a moment. “I broke this one Quarter Horse mare, Deheya, that I’d raised from a foal. I had to sell her before I came here. I haven’t ridden since.” He adjusted the pile of jeans in his arms. “Not that I don’t want to. It’s just, I find it easier to ride horses that I’ve worked with before. Not a horse that someone else has.” Taking a quick glance up at the rack, he pulled down a leather halter and black lead. “You never know when I’ll get a new horse and need this stuff.”
I’m sick of imagery, instead of artistry. I’m sick of apathy, instead of harmony. I’m sick of poets working part-time jobs While pissy people pick and choose the stars
I know that I should be The last one to speak About this But even sellouts have their dreams Set the music free
A frown formed on Jacob’s face, his high cheekbones becoming more accentuated by the movement. “I’m being rude. You didn’t ask about any of that.” A light blush creeped upon his cheeks. “Do you have horses?” [/blockquote]

Raine listened to Jacob as he spoke, going off on his own mission as he told her about his work as well as recalling a young horse he had had to sell. Raine's heart would break if she had to sell either of her two horses so her heart went out to him. If he'd brought up the horse then she must have meant quite a bit to him. However Raine had learnt that making assumptions wasn't the best thing to do. She had made a few mistakes that way.
Raine saw the way his frown accentuated some of his features. His eyes in particular were set alight by the light coming in through the store's window. Raine's on the other hand were in the dark, with her back facing the window, so her eyes were a deep turquoise. Her smile had never faded from the moment that she had met Jacob and when he blushed, her smile only became broader.
If you hadn't spoken up I would've asked anyway.
She put him at ease, glad to know something about the guy she was showing around to buy all of his things. Raine tucked her hair behind her ear to keep it from falling into her face whilst she spoke.
And yeah, I do. I've been in Westin a few months but I never owned horses before that. So these two are my first - Cowboy and Des...
As Raine recalled Desert Dancer her expression became more thoughtful and she considered Jacob quite a bit. She bit her lower lip, not too tightly but it was something that she did when she thought. Len had never liked it. Of course her ex had been difficult but all the same she missed him. City life had been far easier than being out in an isolated town, although some people would have said differently.
Des is a young Nokota. I've been trying to train her with Wyatt but lately he's got his hands full. If you're looking for a job I really need help. We've only just started her halter training and even now, she's still very difficult to handle by myself.
Raine looked hopeful and she had pushed herself away from the saddle and approached Jacob. She was trying to pull one of her charming acts over him, although obviously needing the help. She was a city girl and he was a cowboy - she really did need the help.

Jake's dark eyes searched Raine's turquoise pair. He did need the work- it was what he was born and bred to do, like a tall, leggy young Thoroughbred set for the racetrack. No. He frowned slightly. Thoroughbred's were too leggy and highstrung. More like a Quarter Horse learning to cut cattle. His face relaxed as the comparison changed.
"I'd be glad to help you out, miss, just as soon as I find myself a place to stay besides my pickup truck." A grin split his face, and he raised his eyebrows. "That is, unless you want to do it now?"

You're kidding? You don't even have a place to stay?
Raine sounded exasperated and surprised at the same time. Justin and her gran would hardly be pleased if she invited the guy to stay for the night, especially if she had only just met him, but there was the motel. How she was going to let this gorgeous man go at the end of the day was beyond her. Raine just couldn't help herself but she supposed that she should stop playing with those thoughts in her head. Typical. She'd learnt all this from her best friends back in L.A. who idolized any good-looking man...or boy...
And my car is back at the house. If you don't mind, we could always head out to the ranch in your pick up? I'm just dying to show you Des now.
Raine ended with an excited squeak, putting her hand over her mouth and her eyes sheepishly looking up at Jacob. She really could be a child at times but it was a part of her charm - she wasn't an old soul, she was alive and bubbly and in the moment.
Sorry.
She apologised, laughing a little bit and backing up towards the counter.
Let's go. We've got the whole afternoon.

"Easy there, cowgirl. Let me pay first." A quick glance up, and a packet of alfalfa and apple treats rested atop the pile in his arms. Jake set everything down on the counter and began pulling out money. A one-hundred, and a twenty were passed to the cashier, and Jacob nodded to him to keep the four-dollar change. Taking the bags, Jake led the way outside. "It's not a big deal." He'd been mulling over what Raine had said in the store. "I'm fixin' to buy a ranch anyway. I sold my old ranch for a near million dollars. I'll be fine." He shrugged, making his way to a faded blue Chevrolet pickup truck. He opened his door, stuffing his purchases behind his seat, before walking over and opening Raine's door for her. He closed it behind her, and climbed back into the driver's seat. "Where to, little lady?" [/blockquote]

Raine was still bubbling with excitement even when Jacob had told her to slow down. When she was happy, that was that. Raine could hardly contain herself as she made her way to the door, with her hand on the handle just ready to leave. She watched him from her view by the door, and then turned her eyes to the window. She could just see the figure of her brother standing with a cigarette in his hand but it wasn't long before he headed off. Raine was dismayed to see that it was in the general direction of the bar. Raine leaned against the door, supporting herself as her excitement waned somewhat. Why couldn't he be happy too? She understood her brother's pain but she couldn't dwell on all that had happened. She was starting anew and with Jacob's help, she was going to tame Desert Dancer and really begin her life out here in Westin.
Raine looked over her shoulder at Jacob's approach and made way as he walked on through with bags in hand. She followed him all the way to his truck. She had to say, he didn't hold anything back. He had told her about his horse, Deheya, and now that he had sold his ranch and for how much too. Raine was never particularly phased by money because she had grown up with it, and at least hearing that he wasn't bad off was a good thing. Raine had been about to open her own door when he was right there beside her.
Thank you.
She quipped perkily, hopping up into her seat and settling in. She looked across at Jacob as he climbed into his truck.
I'm not that little, am I?
She eyed him, putting a finger over her lips thoughtfully.
Maybe a little.
She considered him for a moment then pointed at the road.
Straight up town and just follow the road. Takes you all the way to Silver Stag.
Raine relaxed in her seat, looking down at her attire. A white jacket of all days.
Des is going to have a ball with this. I won't have one clean spot on my jacket.
She laughed, putting her hands into her pockets after setting her handbag down at her feet.
