Wyatt looked on as Clarity held her hand out to Boone. He pushed his muzzle into her hand and waffled his lips over her palm, his friendly nature showing through the way his ears flopped lazily to the side then pricked forwards with curiosity.
Think you wanna ride now? The round pen is safe. Nowhere for him to run off to. It's easy goin'.
Wyatt offered, finding that he was stroking Boone's neck. Wyatt was taking to the grulla but he was still keeping his attachment to the horse quiet. Boone's arrival had been a secret but Wyatt had caught his wife in the act. The ranch owner was actually enjoying how quiet this horse was but he was still waiting for the day that Boone spooked. He wasn't used to a horse being this quiet and the two as a pair still had a long way to go. Lily on the other hand had taken to this horse immediately. She took in a lot of charity cases but that was hardly a bad thing. It stretched their pockets a bit but the Parkers were pulling through just fine, especially with the extra borders paying off some bills.
Boone.
Wyatt's firm voice was directed towards the horse as the gelding attempted to rub his head against Clarity's side, taking a step forward but with Wyatt's hand tugging on the lead he quit, eyeballing the man and bobbing his head up and down. Despite himself Wyatt smiled but quickly took it back.

Clarity's eyes widened as she watched Wyatt.
Bareback? Or do you need me to get a saddle...?
There was a slight note of panic in her voice, but she set her jaw. This is what she had always wanted to do, and she aimed to do it right. As Boone pushed up against her side, she couldn't help but let out a little giggle. She slowly raised her hand, drawing it down the big grulla's neck. She watched his head out of the corner of her eyes, gauging his reaction.
Either way, yeah. Why wait? I have to do it sometime.
She turned to face Wyatt, chewing her bottom lip with uncertainty. [/blockquote]

Wyatt's smile showed his obvious amusement at her exclamation. At the same time his smile was reassuring.
I wouldn't make ya ride bareback on your first ride.
His smile faded as his face relaxed once again.
There's a tack room in that building over there.
He pointed out the barn, which was fairly close to where they were at the moment.
Its up the aisle, at the end to your left. Saddles and bridles are tagged, so you'll see Boondock's tack pretty easily. Then there will be a groomin' kit, a small black box, lined up against the wall. There'll be a body brush in there. Bring that too.
Wyatt gave Clarity the instructions and guides she would need to retrieve all of the things they needed to get Boondock ready before they would start her first riding lesson.

Clarity nodded, slipping out between two rungs on the fence. She made her way to the tack room, her eyes casting over the heavy saddles until she came to Boone's. Her thin arms fought under the weight, as she grabbed his bridle and the body brush. She made her way back to Wyatt, setting the saddle on it's end and looping the bridle over the horn.
Do you want me to just brush him?
At a sign of agreement, Clarity began grooming the large horse. Every time he stamped his foot, she'd scamper out of the way, then slowly go back to continue. Before long, his coat was shiny and removed of all dirt, hay, and shavings.
Time to saddle up? [/blockquote]

Wyatt didn't have long to wait before Clarity re-appeared from the barn with everything in tow. She had all that he had asked from her and he was studying her thin arms under the pressure of carrying a saddle. To him the weight was something he knew from carrying it around from day to day, so she was still accustomising herself to carry that kind of weight. Wyatt adjusted his stetson as she made her approach and then returned into the round pen with him.
Yes.
He nodded just once as she asked if it was time to brush him. Boone had loose hair all over his winter coat and his mane was slightly tangled, but then again he had been out in the paddock all day with the other horses. Most nights just grooming the horses was enough labour for the week, or at least that's what it could feel like.
You ever saddled a horse?
He asked, leading Boone to the fence and tying the lead rope in a loose knot on the fencing. He retrieved the saddle off of the top of the fence and eased it over Boone's withers, sitting it just right in the groove of his back.

No sir.
Clarity's eyes searched the ground as Wyatt grasped the saddle, easily sliding it onto the horse's back. She knew how to do up the cinch, but she'd never actually done it, so she was ready to just have Wyatt explain it better to her.
With his help, she tightened the cinch, and stuffed her toe into the stirrup. Grasping Boone's mane in one hand, and the saddle horn in the other, she struggled to pull herself up. Settling into the saddle, she sat up straight, fixing her posture as she'd seen English riders do. She gently gathered the reins, splitting them between her hands before thinking better of it, and pushing them into one. [/blockquote]

Wyatt gave her a few guidelines in doing up the cinch, demonstrating it loosely and then stepping back in order to allow Clarity to do so by herself. He only stepped in once to help her but otherwise she seemed just fine.
Hold on.
Wyatt kept her from mounting in the saddle in order to bridle Boone.
You ain't gonna ride 'round without a bridle.
He said, amusedly casting her a glance then undoing the halter, sliding it around Boone's neck to keep him in place whilst he held the bit up to Boone, urging him to accept it then lifting the brow band up and fixing the bridle over Boone's ears comfortably. He did up the throat lash and fixed the nose band, checking everything once before pulling the reins up and over, resting them on the horn. He removed the halter then turned towards Clarity.
Left foot in the stirrup. Yeah, like that. Now hoist yourself up an' swing your leg over.
Clarity was doing alright for her first time riding.
You sure you've never ridden before?
Wyatt asked her, holding the reins on Boone because despite the fact that she was nearly full grown, he had never ridden before.
Both hands. Just for now.
He led Boone forwards a few steps to line him up horizontally next to the fence.
He'll follow the fence. Now give 'im a nudge with your heel. An' if he needs a little more than that, click your tongue.
Wyatt demonstrated how and then he let go of the reins, taking a few steps backwards so that he came into the middle of the circle.
I want you to do a circle or two, just to find where you're comfortable. Get your seat. Ain't no rush.

Clarity took her foot from the stirrup, waiting as Wyatt put the bridle on Boone, before continuing up in the saddle. She split the reins, taking a deep breath, and biting her lip.
Never.
She smooched her lips, gently squeezing her legs, and flinched as Boone took a step forward. He seemed to sense her discomfort, and she shook her head.
Come on, sweetie.
She squeezed his sides again, and was happy she wasn't as anxious as the first time. She allowed her hips to loosen, moving with each of his steps. A smile began to form on her lips as she directed Boone around the tiny area. [/blockquote]
