Shane McCullen didn't know if she had any relatives out there. She knew her father had a sister and a brother, she didn't know about her moms side. The McCullen family usually just stayed to themselves. Concentrating on keeping the stables up to date and running.
She was in a big surprise when she went through her father's stuff after two years gathering dust in the basement of the house.
She found a letter in a box marked 'Office'. She her parents passes away, she had cleaned out the stables office, taking out all of her parents things. As she took the box down form the top shelf, it slipped out of her hands and the box burst opened, papers flew everywhere.
"Dammit." She kneeled down and started to pick up the papers. One envelope caught her eye. It was yellow with age. It was addressed to "The McCullen Family" from a social worker in New York. She sat down on the cold cement floor and opened the envolope. It read:
Dear The McCullens,
I am writing to you in hopes of helping me. Mr. McCullens neice,
Addison has recently become the custody of the state. Her
mother is now in jail for a long time, and her father is no where
to be found.
I am hoping you would take custody of her. Of not, she will be in
the custody of the state, going to a foster home, until she is of
age."
Sinceraly,
Abigail Feraro
New York City Social Worker
"Oh my god." She dropped the letter on the ground. She looked in the pile of papers on the cold cement floor, looking for a letter from her dad to the social worker. But she found nothing.
She knew nothing about her cousin, except her name. She didn't know how old she was or anything.
Little did she know, at the same exact moment that she had thought those thoughts, Addison had just gotten on the greyhound bus, going her way.
