I found a useful site that gives you a break down on horse information like colour and breeds. In the colour, it shows you some different shades of black. I'd never heard of some of them, so maybe you haven't either? Take a peep.
www.theequinest.com
Here are some other websites:
www.equusite.com/articles/basics/basicsColors.shtml (this includes markings) www.sherlockfarms.com/markings.gif (specifically markings) www.aghr.com/images/color.jpg (drawn images) horsesrblack.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/horseys-12.jpg (colour coats - very useful but drawn images) www.amha.org/registration/images/horse-parts.jpg (the anatomy of the horse) www.animalgenetics.us/CCalculator1.asp (calculates what colour a foal will be from what colour coats its parents have)
And here is some other info about...
Blue Roans Blue roans are born looking black although upon closer inspection (not visible in pictures) you can see a frosting on the hairs. As blue roans begin to shed their baby fuzz, they begin to turn roan. Blue roans will change colors many times throughout the course of a year. Their winter coats are almost black. As they shed their winter coats, they begin to turn roan again and will also go through several varied colors throughout the summertime before turning almost black again in the winter.
The images are self-explanatory.
And what do you call a horse with...
A blonde mane & tail and a brown body?
Flaxen liver chestnut or chocolate palomino.
